An extraordinarily modern plant, over 1000 square metres large, is the only factory in the world to be designed for and assigned to the workmanship of the stockfish. Stocco & Stocco's chief, Francesco D'Agostino, together with Cittanova's mayor, Francesco Morano and the european parliament member Gianni Pittella, cut the ribbon at the opening of the plant the making of which represents a great challenge for the productive part of Calabria.
Attending the opening ceremony there was also the greatest european stockfish producer, Arne Johansen from Norway. This challenge was faced and won by Francesco D'Agostino alone, who counted only on his ability as entrapreneur, and was helped by the Cooperative Credit Bank of Cittanova, which assisted him in the financial and technical matters.
The builing was designed by local engineers Antonio Sollazzo, Filiberto Chiappetta and Cecè Cosentino, who availed themselves with the skills of Cav.Gianni Mombrini and the technical support of Dr.Francesco Caliò. Notwithstanding the plant being an extremely modern structure and its spaces having been scientifically rationalized and conceived in order to maximize hygiene during the whole productive process,
the stockfish workmanship is done exactly as artisans did decades ago, with the help of 30 employees skilled in this area.With this new plant, the town of Cittanova strenghtens its role of "italian stockfish capital" and proposes itself as living example of productive and efficient reality, symbol of a Calabria finally proportionated to national levels.
